You cannot have a knowledge management (KM) initiative without being focused on how people interact with each other and with resources within the organization. Change is at the heart of the initiative as people will be challenged to evolve the way in which they engage with the world.

I believe that showing people how KM can help improve their life in a real way, is the key to creating buy-in. Once KM methods are associated with concrete benefits the doors are open for progress to be made. This is an important step in generating momentum.

A few important items…
  • Seek small wins first.
  • Provide basic tactics and techniques that help people solve a problem or work more effectively.
  • Seek evangelists and early adopters to gain much-needed support for the initiative.
  • KM isn’t about a tool or a process it’s about people.
